Music videos have different purposes but the main purpose is usually promotion i.e. promoting a new artist , or to promote a new album and if it's a movie sound track it's to promote the movie , which is an example of synergy. The other reason is to sell ! , sell singles , sell albums and sell and promote products (product placement). Music videos are also made to entertain people and create a brand identity for the artist.
